Install shelving on the wall above my desk.
One item on my most recent To-Do list, included installing some sort of shelving in my home office. This article discusses this project. I wrote it more as a reminder to myself as to what I bought and how I did it.

Planning
I wanted something that would go above my home office desk. So any sort of free standing shelving would not work. That lead me to start investigating options for a wall solution.
In the past I’ve been happy with the self-track options I’ve used for closet projects, so when I discovered the Rubbermaid Shelving materials I felt this would suit my needs.
All the materials come in a variety of sizes so this also made my decision a littler easier. I was able to purchase all the materials. There was not cutting boards, sanding, painting or any of that.
Just measure the area you want to install and select the appropriate size parts. Pretty simple.

Materials
All the materials for this project can be found at your local Home Depot or online. They are in the shelving aisle.
I choose Home Depot because I received gift cards for Christmas and my Birthday last year. So this meant I could do this project without any money out of my pocket. That is always a good thing.

- $2.47 – Twin track universal track hardware x 1 = $2.47
- $3.47 – 9′ Bracket, Black twin Bracket x 6 = $20.82
- $6.97 – 47 1/2 Upright, Black twin track upright x 2 = $13.94
- $6.98 – Shelving, Beechwood Shelf 10″ X 36″ X 3 = $20.94
- Total Parts Cost: $58.17

Installing
The universal track hardware too the guessing work out of this project and made the installation easier. The anchors for this are brilliant and easy to use.
Conclusion
This was a pretty straight forward project. It really didn’t take all that long. Bonus that my 3 year old son was also able to help out. See the shelves even holds a small child.
Now that the rails are up, if I ever need to add more shelves I’m able to do that. But for now I think the 3 shelves are sufficient.
I also like that the rails are black you are able to choose different color or finishes for the shelves. I went with the Beechwood which I think blends well with the rest of my home office.
