Thanks

Special thanks to all the individuals who generously donated their tickets. There were several customers who gave me your tickets while at the check out. I never got your names, but thanks.

I don’t think it’s any secret that Monopoly is one of my favorite games. It doesn’t matter if I’m playing the Monopoly Board Game The Classic Edition with friends or family.

If I’m playing the once hard to find Millionaire’s version, or the Monopoly Deal Card Game version.

I love Monopoly and the play of the game.

So when companies start using Monopoly to bring in customers, I’m immediately sold.

Our local grocery store Jewel-Osco has had a Monopoly promotion again this year. If someone out there knows when this started please comment and share below, because I really don’t remember. Here is my 2018 winnings roundup.

This is my third year reporting my winnings. I created this article for those interested in the game. It is also a reminder to myself and something I can look back on throughout the years.

Here is a summary of my 2019 Jewel-Osco Monopoly Play

I’ll be honest with you, I did a horrible job keeping track of my winnings this year. Life just got busy and I failed to keep better track of this as I have in the past.

If you remember from last year, I used the mobile app and was able to get a screen shot of the points I earned. This year by the time I got around to writing this article, the promotion was over and I never got a complete picture of how many points I earned.

In addition, this year I did NOT wait until the end of the promotion to redeem all the Instant Win coupons. Instead I redeemed them as I received them.

The reason was that some of the items were perishable and waiting until the end of the promotion meant that we had more sour cream than we would have used at one time, and since the coupons do expire, it made more sense to redeem the coupons as I received them.

The kid also loved the fact that we had several donut coupons. He of course wanted one every day.

What I did this year was save all the receipts from the purchases or redemptions of the instant win coupons. I also wrote an article with a description of the instant winners here.

Instant  Winner Coupons

The following amount are my store receipts from redeeming the Instant Winner coupons. This was how I calculate my winnings for 2019. I also redeemed my points for a gift card but this got lost in the process.

If my memory serves me correctly, the gift card was loaded to my Just for U account. However, when I go to view it now it does not show up. So maybe this was meant to be used before the promotion ended. Looks like I lost out on that. darn!

Lesson Learned

There were many people who generously donated their tickets to me. I have no idea how I would track this, since each board game piece could come from multiple tickets. If you are playing you know what I mean. So I never keep track how many tickets each person gave me.

It appears timing has become a thing. I know I cashed in my points for a $25.00 gift card but they no longer show up in my Just for U account.

In addition, I also redeemed points for the free product, which showed up when I redeemed them, but once I got around to actually getting the items, they were no longer in my account.

So for next year, I’ll need to stay on top of things and make sure I actually get to the store to claim the items before waiting until after the promotion is over.

This year you were able to use points to get free coupons for some products. Since I had a lot of points, I cash in my points for a few of the items. You were only allowed one coupon so that left me with a lot of extra points to use up.

I decided to use my points for the various sweepstakes, but never won anything with this approach.

Final Thoughts

The app was a great time saver, especially when you have a lot of codes to enter, this made it manageable dealing with so many tickets.

The miscellaneous cents off coupons are worthless to me. I did not redeem any of these. One example is the ShutterFly coupons. Yes, the coupons are for free items, but then you pay shipping charges. no thanks

A better option would be to offer the free items, but then also have a way to earn shipping gift cards so the item is totally free.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to next year. I’m hoping to get more people to donate their tickets. If you are interested in donating. I’d love to hear from you.
