My New Keurig Coffee Maker

Today I welcome a new Keurig Single cup brew coffee maker into my life. I’ve been completely happy with my Saeco Magic De Luxe, which my parents bought for me a number of years ago. It has a lot of great features and the one feature I enjoyed most was the frothing capabilities of this machine. The frothing pump is excellent and frothed milk quickly for a great latte. The Magic De Luxe also had an automatic grinder and cup warming plate. At the time this was the “Cadillac” of coffee makers and to me was really impressive. But things wear out, and the competition for faster simple smaller appliances are introduced.

One drawback of the Magic De Luxe was constantly having to maintain it. The machine also required descaling on a more frequent basis. I even used filtered water, so I was mystified at how many times the descaling light was on. In addition the Magic De Luxe also required frequent cleaning of the inside parts because of the coffee grounds. If you missed any part and didn’t have it completed cleaned right, this prevented you from using the machine. Sadly, this is what happened recently and one reason I decided to purchase a new Keurig Single Cup coffee maker. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my Magic De Luxe it’s a great coffee maker, but I’m looking to make my life a bit easier and I think I’ve found it with the Keurig K75 Single Brew K-Cup system.

My old Saeco De Luxe Coffee Maker

For the past year or so I’ve had access to a Keurig coffee maker at the office where I work. During this time I have enjoyed the no mess and easy clean up of the Keurig one cup coffee system. My first impression of the Keurig single cup system was; I though it was kind of a waste to use and dispose of the K-Cup’s, so I put off really wanting one for myself. I didn’t want to depend on purchasing propriety K-Cups. But over time I began to notice all the different varieties and manufactures of K-Cups that started to appear on the market.

During the past year or so I have also walked by the Keurig Coffee maker at my local Costco just about ever visit I make. And every time I walk by, I kept saying to myself, one day I’m going to break down and buy one of those things. If I remember correctly the first few times I saw it on display it was just the coffee maker. I don’t recall this particular retail version having added bonuses. What sold me on purchasing this now is the fact that it also had a re-usable K-Cup insert. One of the reasons I put off buying a Keurig was that I have several packages of whole bean coffee sitting in my freezer. Since my Saeco had a built-in grinder, buying a Keurig which uses pre-packaged K-Cups seemed like a waste. But now that they offer the Keurig with a re-usable K-Cup, I can grind and use my own coffee beans, which is a huge plus for me. I can imagine there are a lot of us out there who have several bags of coffee that we don’t want to go to waste. So if we can grind our existing coffee and use it in the Keurig, that I think is what they mean by the saying “It’s a game changer” and for me that is exactly what it was. Once I burn through the cups that came with the unit, I can start using my own ground coffee now that I have the re-usable K-Cup insert.

This week I finally broke down and bought one. There were several factors and several reason why I choose this week. When I arrived at Costco there was a HUGE display at the front of the store. I couldn’t believe it. The one day I decide I want to buy this thing they have a million of them. I keep thinking myself ,”this is a good sign”. Today is my lucky day! If it were any other day, I’d have went into the store and they would have been out of them. I’d be driving to another Costco because I made up my mind that I wanted this thing TODAY!. So you could imagine my surprise and delight when I walked into the store and saw the display of Keurig’s. Not only did they have exactly what I wanted, but it was in the front of the store on display and I didn’t even need to drag myself around the warehouse to find it.

For all you folks who want the details, It’s the Keurig K75 Platinum Fully Programmable Single Cup Coffee Maker

I’m including a photo gallery for your viewing pleasure. I paid $150 plus tax at the time. Just a mental note to my self.

Thank you

Dave
