Dave Gates reporting in for my first Jewel-Osco Saturday Morning Sampler Savings Report of 2018.
Are you wondering what this is all about? Well for starters, I though it would be interesting to report how much I’ve saved by redeeming the coupons for free items at our local grocery store.
Secondly, I like building blogs and this experiment offers me the opportunity to create content and learn new skills.
We live in the Chicago-Land area and one of the major groceries stores is Jewel-Osco. Last year I signed up for MyMixx rewards and downloaded their smart phone app.
A lot of blogs publish income reports on how much their blogs are earning. I’ve decided to take this concept and turn it around a bit.
Instead of reporting on how much my blog is making, I plan to report on how much I’m saving by redeeming coupons for free items. It’s just a little experiment, but it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Overview
Any blogger will tell you there is a lot of work behind creating the articles and maintaining a blog. But it is actually fun and interesting. There are many ups and downs along the way.
There was another Saturday’s in January which they offered BOGO items, Since my goal with this project is to track all the totally free items. I did not purchase the BOGO item. (Buy-one=get-one)

I find developing and growing a mailing list is harder than I anticipated. I’ve signed up and registered for an email newsletter service with Mailchimp.
My plan is to track the growth of this list. I joined in last year, we have a great base to start with. Everything I read suggest offering something of value for free. So I’m working on developing this. Do you have any suggestions?

Our email list is growing very slowing, we added a few more to our list. How exciting.
I’m still loving the themes from Studiopress. I highly recommend them. I’m currently using the Lifestyle Pro Theme.

LESSONS LEARNED
The purpose of this report and doing all this work is to report how much money the free items adds up to. So it really doesn’t matter if it’s a Saturday Morning Sampler Item or just a MyMixx item. If I can clip the coupon in the MyMixx app and get the item for free, I will include it here.
In addition to the Free items with MyMixx, Jewel-Osco also runs word of the day promotions through social media. These are often one-day promotions where you need to report to the cashier the #wordoftheday.
Although I’m not including these here, I wanted to share that with you. I have a lot going on so I think I’m going to just stick with the MyMixx Free items this year. So no additional word of the days items.

I’d also like to start working with video and sharing more through YouTube. That was a good idea, up until YouTube changed their monetization options, making it more difficult for the little guy to make some money, but I still think it would be worth doing more video. I just find video to be much more time intensive.
MOVING FORWARD
The plan is to continue visiting my local Jewel-Osco on Saturday morning’s for their Free items in 2018. I’m a sucker for anything free.
